HOW STRANGE IS IT

After nearly 4 months and 38000km's on the road, how strange is it that " Two South African GS Riders "  cross over the same Pass In Colorado with-in hours of each other  (Readied on blog awhile back  that I was the other GS rider, well it seems that the other one has forgotten the names of the three he started with,  was in Vail Colorado at same time as I was )

There will be two days that I will never forget on this trip.
First was the day/night, my birthday actually,  when we passed over a very high  pass in Peru, had to battle with cold winds, rain, snow and a bit of ice on the road and all four at that stage managed to reach safety over the pass.

Second was yesterday. Left my overnight stop in bright sun-shine heading towards Denver on Highway 70, went threw that amazing canyon as per photo's and straight into the worst snow-storm so far, I believe pass called Vail Pass, which just went on and on, freezing cold, road covered in snow and ice, couldn't see out of visor, open it and with-in a few km's my face was frozen. Well as their were no places to turn off, I had to crawl on at a very slow pace, managed to pull-in behind a truck, which had snow-chains on, with my hazard flickers on rode behind it for a long time, we, went up and over and then up again, passing threw 2 long tunnels which was also very scarcer because of the ice factor inside them. You can not believe how people even in bad condition like that drive, cars and trucks racing past, even trucks with snowploughs in front came past, spraying me with that dirty grit they put on the roads. Got to the other side safely, stop to rest, as I got off the bike I nearly fell, due to my hands and legs below the knee's been frozen, found that the snow below my knee's had frozen and formed two ice blocks on them.
Well that's enough of that. hopefully it was the last of the mountain pass until I get to the coast,  I hope.

Hey man, sounds like some serious cold. Balmy weather here.
As for that other guy on the GS, too bad he hasn't got any manners, but I guess he'll never learn any.
Ride on.

Wow! what an amazing adventure. I am also an avid rider, and am thinking about the same sort of trip. I would really love to read the whole story, but I noticed only a week of each month is published on your blog. Can you change the settings of your archive to include the whole trip? Thanks! Happy Trails.

@Anonymous 3.03am: Thanks for the kind words. The entire trip is on the blog, archived by month. (Just click on the month) I am concerned that if we put it all up without archiving, it will be too cumbersome.

Yes I tried, but when I click on the archive I only see the last few days of each month. I can't seem to access any days prior to that. Thanks Cheers!

Hi Lindsay,
Thanks for the ongoing photo's and feedback, giving some idea of the magnificent ride in such varied conditions- what an experience. Amazing to read some responses to my enquiry re Marco/Stan's departure;such pettiness is so ignorable when the greater picture is the beauty of the riding. Keep it up both of you and relish the opportunity. It certainly is/was incredible to be riding in the same vicinity after such a distance.
Best wishes, John vd Spuy

Hi Lindsay,

A nice taste of my winter commuting, only difference is I am normally geared properly for it!

Enjoy the rest of your trip and take it easy. Live for the moment not for the past.

Cheers
Dirk
