Discovering the Northern Cape
Just arrived back from an amazing Tour around the Northern Cape. Left Dennehof in Prince Albert towards Leeu Gamka, turn left on to the Fraserburg road for 30km's, then right onto the Oukloof Pass road through the Nuweveldberge for our first day lunch stop in Fraserburg. Taking the scenic back roads route ending in Carnarvon.
Next day we travelled on all the back roads passing Prieska, Douglas, Richie and overnighting @ Magersfontein Guest Farm. Did a Tour of the Magersfontein Battlefield, what an experience.
After our tour we headed North again passing the back of Kimberly, then Barkly West, Postmasburg, arriving at Witsands Nature Reserve deep in the Kalahari. Flowing white dunes mixed with Red Kalahari sand, home of the famous Roaring Sands (Brulsand)
Next day we passed Groblershoop, flowing the Orange river all the way to Upington to fetch supplies for our overnight stop @ Riemvasmaak Hot Springs to the north of the mighty Augrablies Falls, between the Orange & dry Molopo Rivers, lies a sheer mountain desert wilderness born from violent volcanic activity millions of years ago.
Then on to Khamkirri Private Game Reserve, to enjoy an afternoon of river rafting down the Orange River.
Next day we past Kakamas, Kenhart to Verneukpan a vast dry pan 57km's long & 11km's
wide, with a flat track of 17km's long on which Sir Malcolm Campbell tried, in Bluebird 1, to set a new world land-speed record in 1929. On towards Brandvlei to our overnight stop in Loeriesfontein
